Find the symmetry of life

Teenage life is tough. You navigate through so many things: school, life and relationships. Sometimes you can feel lost, the bewildering interim of the threshold rising over your drowsy head after the dozen or so assignments you have to turn in this week, the friends you’ve been with in the gray zone, all the futile efforts to curb introspection on your sexual orientation, etc. Life itself becomes a living allegory of perplexity. It’s not easy there, and the transition is too abrupt to analyze.

However, this state of being “off track” is a phase we all go through, hence this article. In my experiences, we can’t avoid these shifts every time, but we can surely work our way through them without empowering them. Learning to consider the little things in the midst of the chaos of the world can help you in this growth process. Let’s get straight to the point!

1. Reflecting is a deeper look at your soul

As cliché as it sounds, reflection is still one of the surefire ways to focus on the present. Often people live under the impression that the practice of self-reflection is limited to all the good that has happened in the past. However, that’s only half the truth (and actually only a quarter, if that makes sense!). Thinking back to our stockings, we also realize how far we’ve come from days that felt like the end of the world. It energizes us subconsciously, preparing us for what lies ahead. After all, nothing can surpass the power we see when we start believing in ourselves!

2. To recognize is to be self-aware

How many times have you felt the need to bottle up your emotional struggles and throw them in the trash? Probably so many times you’ve lost count by now. This, right there, is a big red flag for your mental well-being. And this time, the fight or flight hormone is not the one to face the blame, but our manipulative brain that we have yet to gain control over. As impossible as it may seem, acknowledging our emotions can help. When we learn to accept things, the whole process of solving the problem becomes easy because we have already prepared our mind for the rest. It is a good practice to remain aware of ourselves and our needs. It can also be helpful in overcoming our insecurities. As stated in the BetterKids article, What is Self-Awareness and Why It Matters, “When we are aware of ourselves, we are able to recognize our strengths and weaknesses. helps us set goals. We know where we are. room to grow and that’s a good thing!” And we agree one hundred percent!

3. Develop healthy habits

In our everyday life, we often take small things for granted. It is nothing less than committing a crime. From how you start your morning to the note you end it on, everything has an impact on your overall well-being. These little things can then accumulate into one big grudge that you hold against yourself and paralyze with the burden. Making small changes here and there can yield unexpected results. This includes cleaning your room, doing your nails, keeping a journal, or all the “meaningful insignificants”. Building these habits can feel like you’ve finally taken control of your life, and who doesn’t like gaining the upper hand!

4. Socialize for social welfare

Humans are social beings. We need people to thrive in society and explore diverse horizons of our individuality through the relationships we form. Being part of a healthy community can potentially impact our social well-being and influence how we treat others and ourselves. Through these connections, we can learn more about the social spectrum in which we find ourselves and thus make certain changes for the sake of improvement. While a community can be big, small, or even informal, that’s what we make of it. Building a healthy and uplifting atmosphere is good for everyone, and through this budding support system, we can learn and develop our soft skills.

5. work on goals, one step at a time

We all have certain expectations of ourselves, and it’s no crazy thought that we rarely fail. This is a point where we often get carried away with feelings of misery, grief, and all that can hurt our self-esteem. However, as miserable as it sounds, it is an inevitable part of life. It is through these difficult times that we often end up becoming better than we were yesterday. Just as we give happiness, laughter, and success a special place on the shelf, failure must also be accepted. We have to get through this, and everything in between, one step at a time. The recovery process can be slow and tedious too, but anything that brings out the best in us is worth it.

Last takeaway

A strong realization that adds to our improvement is that perfection is overrated. And although this article talks about ways to find symmetry in life, in reality there is no such thing as an ideal symmetry. Life is what we make of it, today and every day. There will be ups and downs that we will have to face with our face on the good side and faith in our heart. With the right perception, it’s always beautiful, inside and out.
