How to protect your skin and keep it hydrated during the winter season

Winter is the time of year that brings delicious hot chocolates with cozy sweaters. Unfortunately, winter is also the time of year that brings dry skin. Our sensitive skin takes its toll when the weather turns cold. Still, that doesn’t mean we can’t prepare for the cold, here are some tips to help your skin combat this season’s dryness.

Provide more hydration in your skin routine

During the winter, the moisture in your skin evaporates faster and produces less natural sebum. Use a thicker moisturizer than in warmer seasons, as long as it’s still good for your skin. One of the cheapest and most effective is petroleum jelly.

Take out the sunscreen

Seems weird to put on sunscreen in the winter, doesn’t it? Bad! Do not think that the sun is not as dangerous as in winter.

Prevent chapped lips

Use a moisturizing lip balm throughout the day to keep your lips hydrated. Use it as part of your complete moisturizing routine, but also take some with you to reapply throughout the day.

Use hand lotion.

We use our hands a lot, so it’s important to take care of them. Use a heavy moisturizer and apply lotion after washing your hands if you feel the soap and water are drying them out.

Use hot water

Use lukewarm water instead of hot water for showers and baths. Hot water can strip your skin’s natural oils. You should also reduce your bath or shower time. Longer time in water can dehydrate your skin.

Stay hydrated

Cut down on hot chocolate and drink plenty of water instead. Also, eat foods with high water content. These can be found in fruits and vegetables. Keeping your body hydrated will keep your skin hydrated!
