Small ways to be healthier

Being healthy is a journey and can be fun. It affects everything like your mind, your acne, your energy and much more. I’m sure you’ve also engaged in wholesome acts that you don’t even know about yet. Let’s cut to the chase.

1. Smoothies

If you like protein shakes or smoothies, incorporate a cup of spinach into your drink. It’s a great way to get veggies and barely taste a difference. I love this method. I added frozen fruits like strawberries, grapes, pineapple, then spinach. If you like lettuce, switch to spinach instead and add it to your pizza or sandwiches. Spinach actually has more nutritional value per serving than lettuce.

2. Get enough sleep

Everyone always says to get eight to ten hours of sleep at night. Sometimes that’s not possible when you have an assignment to hand in or you have to study for a big test. Let me tell you, cramming the day before a big test actually strains your brain and you won’t retain as much information. Don’t stand around drinking coffee or energy drinks. Try planning study guides weeks in advance. The most important thing about sleep is having a regular schedule even if you only have seven hours.

3. Enjoy Your Carbs

When trying to be healthy, don’t look at numbers and picture yourself as numbers. It’s always good to enjoy the foods you love, and even the healthy foods you love, otherwise you’ll feel like it’s all dieting and restrictions. It will only make you feel negative. Enjoy healthy carbs by eating oatmeal, bagels, wheat bread, sweet potatoes, and foods that will replace the bad snacking habits we have.

4. Socialize

The biggest obstacle to being healthy is wanting to hang out with friends at the pizza place, having movie nights with lots of junk food, and staying up late with friends. All of this can be done. You don’t want to say no to your friends every weekend, so definitely reward yourself for your efforts during the week to be healthy. Plus, you can go out and eat small portions of whatever food you want, or choose healthy alternatives like grilled chicken or even wheat pizza.

5. Everyone with Iskra

A new app called Everybody with Iskra has been created by a now plus-size model, Iskra, who advocates being our best selves. Its app features fun workouts, fun foods to enjoy, self-taught, and more without the feeling of dieting, calorie counting, or even weighing yourself. This app is completely different from weight loss apps.

Iskra has campaigned with American Eagle for years for the #aeriereal campaign.

Changing the way you live to be better and healthier can be difficult, but in the end, it helps you stay energized and be yourself.
