March favorites to try when you’re locked inside

Surprise! This article is not about the CoronaVirus. You’re welcome? We could all use a little break from the hysteria. Although I lacked the usual inspiration to write, as I felt that people only cared about breaking news and my petty opinions would be irrelevant, I caught a new wind thinking that distraction could serve any purpose well. the world. Especially in the information we read. Therefore, I considered this article and this blog as a Corona-free zone. I’ve compiled a list of my favorites from March, many of which I particularly enjoyed spending so much time indoors. So consider these March favourites/quarantine essentials, and a little description to follow. Enjoy this varied collection!

Favorite breakfast: A poached egg on toast.

If you know me well, you know I love a poached egg. Although oatmeal with berries was my favorite breakfast, I found myself starving an hour into the school day. Therefore, I opted for the equally healthy, but higher protein poached egg on toast. I don’t know how others like their eggs cooked, but I love the super runny yolk with the fluffy whites. My trick for a gooey, easy-to-crack poached egg is to dip the egg in boiling water over medium-high heat for two minutes and gently splash some water over the yolk to give it a flimsy but coated. Depending on the skillet I’m using, I usually let the egg sit for another two minutes over medium heat or until my toast is done. Although the egg seems to be the show stopper here, the toast is just as important. Since the yolk will saturate the toast, giving it more time in the toaster results in the perfect texture. I prefer whole wheat bread because it convinces me that I’m healthier than I really am. I used Trader Joe’s random seed bread, which probably isn’t whole wheat. Like I said, it’s about convincing myself that it’s healthy.

Favorite skincare product: I Dew Care Sugar Kitten Mask.

It may be the first time in a long time that you read “Face Mask” and have to refer to a care product rather than a measure to fight CoronaVirus. Since the face mask selfies are just as important as the mask’s actual health benefits, this holographic, glittery face mask does both. It’s embarrassing to admit, but I first bought this mask because it looked pretty and looked like a pretty photo shoot, and I paid no attention to its promised benefits. And it’s a peel off mask that I find super satisfying and more fun than spending hours in front of my sink scrubbing a washable face mask. Although I have no intention of seeing any improvement in my skin, I was pleasantly surprised to find my skin beautiful and glowing after removing the mask. Now, I may be getting the recommended hours of sleep now that my schedule is more lenient, but my skin is absolutely booming. And, for the purposes of this article, I’ll credit my skin with this mask. It’s a shame that my skin looks good considering I’m quarantined indoors and no one but my mom can see me. And she always tells me that I look good. So you’re going to have to take my word for it. I swear though that the day we’re out of quarantine I’ll just get a huge pimple and swallow my words.

Favorite TV show: The Great British Baking Show

I know that I’m not the only one to say that food is on my mind more than usual this month. Now 80% of my time is spent thinking about my next meal, or food in general. Since resources are scarce and it is unfortunately necessary and very unhealthy to use up all the flour in my pantry to bake a new batch of cookies every day, I channeled this interest in food into watching others to cook. Considering Love Island is one of my favorite TV shows, I started watching The Great British Baking Show on Netflix. Needless to say, watching the incredible desserts the chefs whip up leaves me even hungrier than before and just as inspired. What I love about the show, besides their unique accents and obviously amazing creations, is that they’re all home bakers. For each contestant, baking is a hobby they do outside of their day job. It’s inspiring because I’m a home baker so to speak, if my cookies can attest to that. Obviously, I don’t make technical desserts like Genoise, it’s a good recipe for inspiration and education. I learned that in England biscuits are cookies, not American biscuits. Not surprisingly, I tried to replicate the competitor’s accents and didn’t sound as bad as expected!

Your favorite piece of clothing: Fluffy Ugg slippers

Although I received them as a Christmas present and have been in love ever since, I have gained a new appreciation for them as I am home more often. I’m not kidding when I say I wear them 24/7. I seriously fell asleep with them a few nights ago. They are so comfortable. While Uggs are notoriously known for their high prices, they are worth every penny. I have yet to find such comfortable and, in my opinion, cute shoes or slippers. I have them in a charcoal gray color that unintentionally coordinates with any outfit. Another advantage is that they are slip-on. I’m super lazy and being able to quickly throw them before filming an elaborate Tik Tok dance is really handy. Also, being from California, and just weirdly cold at all times, any temperature below 60 degrees makes me shiver. These slippers are the perfect remedy to keep me cozy and warm. I really wish you could feel the fur through the screen. So soft. They really are the best. That’s all.

Favorite Workout: Alexis Ren Workout Videos

More time is a wonderful opportunity to start exercising more. As I have always been a proponent of frequent exercise, I appreciated having more time to devote to my health. However, I look for consistency rather than longevity when it comes to training. Rather than tiring myself out by running for an hour a day, I prefer to train daily in small doses. I usually alternate between a 3K run in my neighborhood and Alexis Ren’s exercise videos in my bedroom. His videos can be found on Youtube and are only ten minutes long each. They pack a lot of punch and if you do the exercises correctly you will definitely be in pain the next day. I especially like these videos because of their length and I can see that I am getting better the more I do them. Not to mention, Alexis Ren is a model and absolutely gorgeous, so I trust her workout tips. They require no gym equipment and only take up a few feet of space, perfect for people like me without a home gym. And, if you need an extra challenge, using your textbooks as a weight can work. One downside is that the music in the original video is really depressing and listening to your own hype playlist is a must.

Favorite music: Circles by Mac Miller

Speaking of playlists, I started expanding my musical tastes this month. I’m proud to say that my March playlist on Spotify, which I highly recommend, consists of artists I’ve recently started listening to more of. Since I have tons of favorite songs from this month, I noticed 4 Mac Miller songs on my playlist of about 20 and I knew it had to be highlighted in my article. Although he sadly passed away in September, Mac Miller’s album Circles was released in mid-January. I don’t really know why, but I just discovered the album in March and I loved it from the first listen. His music and voice are super soothing to listen to while incorporating a great beat. My top 5 from the album are Complicated, I Can See, Blue World, Good News and Hands. I especially like Complicated because that’s my motto for CoronaVirus: take day-to-day things with ease and don’t stress too much about the future. I tend to listen to loud music and be like that myself, so Circles is like taking a much needed deep breath. It’s perfect for studying music or just before bed.

Favorite pastime: Tik Tok

Are you surprised? I’m a 15 year old girl, of course I’m obsessed with Tik Tok. I can say without challenge, probably more than the average person. My enthusiasm comes in particular from the fact that one of my videos went viral in December and has now exceeded 800,000 views. I plug in that every conservation I have the chance, so this article was no different. Although he’s been unlucky since, my ego grew way too much after my 15 seconds of fame on Tik Tok and probably isn’t back to normal yet. Can’t lie, it was awesome to have a viral video and I’m back to craving that attention and stealing the hype from Charli D’Amelio. Unfortunately, my new Tik Tok rabbit hole recreates Tik Tok dances. I can feel my future self, and probably all of my friends, cringe so hard at the dance videos, but they’re too fun and addictive to refrain from. Believe me, doing ‘the woah’ isn’t going to be my big break, but it’s fun.

There you have it, my March favourites!
